About Haiti

How to describe Haiti.

Well, there's always Wikipedia, and the decreasing news attention.  I'll try to find some good websites to list here.  But in the mean time, here are some recommended books.

Recommended books:

Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder.
This Pulitzer Prize winning book was recommended to me by a friend who helps run a mission in Haiti.  He said that first of all, it is a fascinating book that is very difficult to put down because its so fast paced and well written.  But he said it also helped give him insight on how the people of Haiti are how they are- how they can be hopeful yet sad, how they can live in a country filled with both churches and voodoo temples (maybe someone should write how Nashville can have the highest percentages of churches and strip clubs per capita in the same city).  You'll also love this book if you like stories about people who seem to be able to accomplish the impossible.
